The Institute of Marine Biology and Genetics recently purchased a Skyscan 1172 micro-computertomograph. This technology uses x-rays to create cross-sections of small objects (several microns to centimetres). From these cross-sections, virtual models can be created without destroying the original organism. The MicroCT scanner can be used to scan both hard- and soft-bodied organisms, but also fossils, materials and other small-sized structures.
If you are interested in using the MicroCT services for your research, please contact Dr. Christos Arvanitidis.
Below is a small video gallery of organisms that were scanned with the Skyscan 1172 installed in IMBG. Some of the videos are also available in a 3D version.
